'Twas a Skeletal Sunday.

My goodness how much I have missed posting! I cannot express to you enough the utter frustration in which I've been living in. Of curse, this is all relative to where you live, so when I complain of a busy town, for us humble Alaskans, it's the equivalent to Los Angeles rush hour.

This basically sums things up pretty well.

But seriously.

I guess I shouldn't complain too much because the coffee shop is way busy, which makes me a happy girl, and I feel a sense of pride for living in such a tourist destination hotspot. And it's only one month out of the year.. I guess I could share.. ;)

Anyhow, I've had a recent obsession with bones and skeletons ( not in the Gothic sense however) and I post this as a " skeletal Sunday" because that's how I feel when working mornings. Second breakfast gets waylaid and I'm left with a growling tummy. Oh well. Only a couple weeks left! Now that's something to dance about.

What I wore: vintage rhinestone earrings (used), TOPSHOP cropped skeleton top (used), high waisted black fringe TADASHI skirt (used), and black MISS BISOU pumps (used).

A Song for Sunday- Shower.

I know I say this every week, but this is my new jam.

I'm talking dancing in the mirror, singing in the shower kind of jamming. Oh wait, that's the song talking!

So I'm always on the hunt for a girly jam, as you have probably seen a pattern by now, and this new hit by Becky G is just that. Full of fun spirited, head bopping music and girly vocals, I just instantly tune out the world and give in to fun.

Plus, it's literally my life. Does anyone have a particular someone on the mind and when you dance, you're thinking of them and hoping that they can somehow see you through the curtained windows of your room? Or is that just me.

No matter! I'm almost down with all of the lyrics and so I feel like a boss and it just makes me incredibly uplifted and happy.

"You light me up inside
Like the 4th of July
Whenever you're around
I always seem to smile
And people ask me how
Well you're the reason why
I'm dancing in the mirror and singing in the shower..

La La Di, La La Da, La La Da
Singing in the shower
La La Di, La La Da, La la Da
Singing in the shower..."

A Song for Sunday- The Beginning is the End is the Beginning.

So I finally got round to watching the film Watchmen the other day after all this time. You see, ever since its release back in 2009, when my brother first had read the famous DC Comics classic, its been kind of a topic of much discussion due to some graphic content. Of course my morbid curiosity would come forth and lurk underneath my skin until I finally saw the film. And I did!

I'm not going to go on and on and give a written review on the film. I enjoyed it, I loved the characters and grotesque sequences, but what does that have to do with today's choice of song here? Well this particular song, sung by the Smashing Pumpkins, is one that I now always associate with this film.

Gosh, it's perfect to the darkness of the film. I imagine dark alleyways hiding Rorschach and the mobs and the graffiti on the walls depicting who watches the watchmen? It's seriously perfect. To be honest, I find the soundtrack to the movie to be quite spectacular and unique, featuring songs from Bob Dylan and Simon and Garfunkel as well.

But this particular song just fits perfectly in. When I saw the trailer with this in the background, everything clicked together and Smashing Pumpkins's rock sound with heavy beats just.. it's magic.

"Is it bright where you are
And have the people changed
Does it make you happy you're so strange
And in your darkest hour
My old secrets laid
We can watch the world devoured in its pain.."

Cheery Disposition.

At last, I have internet. I sit here in the wee hours of the morning at my place of work, smelling the sweet aromas of espresso wafting my way and enticing me for a cup of morning joe. Now that summer has struck in the small town of Soldotna and dip net season is upon us, it seems that internet is hard to come by, thanks to the thousands upon thousands of tourists.

No matter. I'm back! Wow, there's lots to share. Lots of exciting things to share. As my mantra always happens to go, though, we'll start with coffee first. I have just been made shift captain at Kaladi Brothers, which is a position up from Barista One, after four long years of dedicated work! I'm most pleased about that.

Secondly, it just seems that so many things are going right. Work is busy and I find myself happily occupied making tourists and regulars their specialty drinks, especially enjoying the meeting of foreign people. On my list so far, I have met people from Austria, Germany, Russia, Columbia, Finland, Australia, England, and Venezuela! The sun has been excellently present these past few weeks and I just have a truly positive outlook on the future. You ever have those moments where you're bursting with glee and dazedly smiling at absolutely nothing in particular? That was me.

I do again apologize for the lack of posting, but with our truly terrid (terrible+horrid) internet connection at home (including the slow 3G connection) and the busyness of a summer in full swing, it's been a bit difficult. Hopefully it will improve!

Happily a Fantastic 4th of July.

I think I can safely say that this was definitely one of my favorite Fourth of July's thus far in my long existence of eighteen years. No, truly! I can't even remember a time where I felt as proud to be as an American as I was today.

There were a lot of little things yesterday that just came together at the end that really made this day special. First off, my dearest friend Kate is visiting from Arizona and so I've been busy all week having a splendid time in her company. She is a joy to have around the house and I cannot wait to share some exciting Alaskan stories with you.

Secondly, it was an absolutely gorgeous day. We even braved the mosquitoes and sat outside to enjoy dinner in the most perfect seventy-three degree sunshine. My oh my.

And then dinner, let me tell you all about it! We had fresh berries in the signature Fourth of July color arrangement, salad with fresh greens from the garden, fried plantains, corn on the cob, and then fresh halibut burgers, with meat not even five hours old. Holy cow. Kate and I even ventured a taste of the halibut cheeks (inspired from our recent viewing of Hannibal Rising and the belief that the cheeks are the most prized meat on animals) and were thoroughly surprised at the tastiness. Ending with a slice of the Macklemore's American that even put a smile on my mom and dad's face, we then disappeared to the indoors.

To top off this celebrated eve of our country's foundation, we sat down to watch a good ole Fourth of July classic, the famous Jaws film. Paired with a homemade crow berry pie with berries freshly picked from the backyard, I went to bed with a happy stomach, but more importantly, a happy heart.

"Red white blue in the sky, summers in the air and baby heavens in your eyes.. I'm your national anthem.."
Nothing beats channeling your inner Lana Del Rey on this 'merican holiday.

What I wore: my sister's headband (shhh she doesn't know yet), a vintage red fringe seventies style crop top (used), hgih waisted LEVI shorts (Paris), men's cream SPERRY TOPSIDERS (used), and my mom's American flag scarf.
