When the Wind Tumbles Down.

It was the queerest incident yesterday afternoon. First, pure sunshine, then fat flaky snowfall, and to top it off, some raging winds.

I'm talking 30 mph with 45 mph gusts, and right as I was going to sleep. You could say that I didn't sleep a wink! I thought for sure that we were having hurricane winds as the trees blew with such force and such booming sounds that I was a bit frightened.

Waking up and going to work was a bit eerie for me as well. I thought for sure I wouldn't even make it to the front door of the cafe without being pushed over.

And I wasn't even safe inside! For most of the morning, the doors blew open, and there was even one exorcism-like moment when all five doors of the cafe burst open at the same time, releasing a pressure and gust that sent trash cans and bills flying everywhere. It was quite intense! And of course that's the subject of talk for the entire day- stories of power outages, lost garbage cans, slipping on the sidewalk, and the destination of safety in the indoors.

You could say that it was pretty unusual weather here! And although I was most frightened, and most certainly not going to pull out my reading material in the middle of the night to keep occupied (Woman in Black), I found this darling little spirit lifter to keep me calm, as the wind came tumbling down.

So Much Sun, Why So Blah?

Awg, I am in some serious funk here. It's only February and I am cross-eyed and weird.

Don't worry, it's quite normal for us Alaskans. In fact, it shouldn't be anything special, but I can't help but complain! It's most odd, the sun is out and shining, and yet I am down in the dumps, especially with my closet.

We've all done it: staring into our majorly packed closet and going I have NOTHING to wear! I do it way more than necessary, but I am simply not inspired by this weather for some reason and I recluse into yoga pants and hoodies. I think part of the issue is the fact that although the sun may be shining, it is still bloody twenty degrees out. So any promise of spring soon evaporates once I step out the door. GRR. So my shorts.. gotta go back into my summer wardrobe.

Now that I am fully aware of this most distressing issue, I'm trying various methods to get on out of the funk. First is: it's February, as in Valentine's Day month and so I have decided to wear something pink, orange, red, or purple (any hues of pink) every day of this month. Now whether it's a top or an undergarment (bring out the Victoria's Secret!), I will try my hardest. Hopefully, this will give me incentive when dressing myself every morning and cut it down to a five minute deal instead of a frustrating three hours.

Secondly, I'm trying to observe more about me and appreciate little things that make me happy. Lunch at little spots, a cute text message, you name it! Gotta keep positive here in the middle of winter.. up secluded in the north.. no one to hear me for miles.. Yep.

PLUS, I leave for Arizona quite soon and that is for sure something to be excited about!

Any ideas for out-of-funk solutions?

Speaking of lunch spots, my mum and I enjoyed a nice one today at Veronica's, located in Old Town Kenai.

A honey vanilla latte.. May be my new favorite drink.

Rosemary Polenta quiche with creamy tomato basil soup and pasta salad. Mmm.

I love the feel of hot sun on my skin! I just wish the air would warm up now..

What I wore: old sparkly dance headband, white COACH sunnies (Christmas gift), silver vintage cardigan (used), pink and silver PINS&NEEDLES top (used), CAbi capris (used), and light grey NORDSTROM flats (sale).

Bronco's Loss and Doggie Gain.

Oh it was a sad day for the Broncos yesterday. Very sad, indeed.

I'm not a particular fan of football myself, and in fact, I still don't understand why we call it football and not like.. I don't know "touchball." Football belongs to the sport of what we call "soccer", so why did we take it when it has little to do with.. feet? I mean there's running and kicks, but not like soccer. Sorry, rant. With the football subject, I only watched today because it's my mom's favorite team and I thought I would support her cause. Plus, orange and blue look so grand together, don't you think?

Now instead of your traditional football party with chips, salsa, guacamole, and lots of football watching, I was actually working. Yes, working. But fear not! I had the game playing live on my iPad and I had the most adorable visit today. I honestly didn't expect to see this little tiny dog that took my breath away. It was the cutest! You should've seen this little girl, cuddled in my arms... Gosh.

So you see, although I am sad for the most unfortunate loss on the Broncos part, I was pleased to have my spirits lifted by this adorable little pup. :)

(Not So) Tiny Dancer.

Oh how I miss the days of dancing!

There's not a day goes by that I don't think of dance, whether it's music on the radio making me shimmy in my seat belt, or a long aisle in the grocery store just waiting for my chassé grand jeté to leap through. But you know, once a dancer, always a dancer, and one simply doesn't drop dance. Dance is expression without words, it comes from the soul and will always be there inside of me. Plus, my large floor length mirrors in my room make dancing quite enjoyable, especially when belting out to some 1D.

I'm reminded more and more every day of the art of dance as I see my sister mature and grow into the beautiful performer she is. Did you know that back in August when we went to France, that it was because of her and her dancing shoes? I'm quite proud to call her my sister and secretly cannot wait to see her onstage once more.

So although I am not Elton John's so called "tiny dancer" (more like a sequoia tree dancer), I am still my own dancer. Whether or not I look like a gazelle on espresso beans doesn't matter- it's how the music makes me move. And groove. And jive. And shake. And shimmy. And au revoir!

What I wore: icicle multi-strand necklace (used), hot pink long-sleeved AMERICAN EAGLE top (used), white skirt with tiny dancers (used), shimmery silver NORDSTROM tights, and black MISS BISOU pumps (used).

Muffcakes and Sequins.

Sequins. They shine. They glitter. They reflect. They stand out. And there is no rule that says tney don't belong here in Alaska!

Indeed, I wore sequins yesterday and I may have gotten some grief about me not fitting into the Alaskan stereotype, but I've never fit into any stereotype anyway and so that was no surprise on my part. I just figured that the condescending looks would be gone by now, but no! As my sixth grade self would reply "whatever."

And paired with my brand new YSL red lipstick, I felt old school glamour emanating from my being. Oh yeah, funny story on the lipstick bit. I wanted a tube of fire engine red lipstick and I was searching this department store relentlessly and no help was provided, nor tube of red lipstick! And then when I did find one, conveniently Chanel, they were out of my pirate shade. Grr. But this YSL one is quite good as well.

So completely off the subject, I'm going to tell you about this delightful treat I had today. We call it.. A... Muffcake! How genius does that sound? It's like half a muffin and then tastes like a red velvet cupcake and they are DIVINE. My friend Selia came up with that little ditty to call them.

Muffcakes and sequins, I would say it was a pretty groovy day.

What I wore: gold sequined jacket (used), white androgynous style PROMOD top (from Paris), black and white striped GAP skirt (used), and black HUNTER boots (used).

Cookies and Major Ice.

It rained.

All. Night. Long.

This creates quite a mess for us in the morning, the roads especially. Ice sheets blanket every available road surface, my car gets quite good at handling that tokyo drift, and the rates increase in falling bodies.

But you know, I'm trying to have a positive outlook on things, even if I want to pound a couple big ones into the clouds and demand snowfall. The rain has brought on good things: warmer temperatures, and... that's about all I can say. But that's a lot, for me! Plus, it feels like breakup season, just exceptionally early in the year.

Plus, it prompts my mom to bake cookies and I can never, EVER, complain about that.

Everything melts..

This is the danger I'm talking about here. Do you see what I have to brave everyday?

GREEN. GRASS.

What I wore: vintage shiny clip-on grape cluster earrings (used), red and white checkered men's top (used and purchased in Paris), a fashion face FOREVER 21 tee (birthday gift), black leggings, white socks, and red DOC MARTENS (used).

I cannot explain to you, the importance of freshly baked cookies. I swear, they are this infinitely precious concoction made to instantly warm the heart and pump positivity into the soul. Plus, they are doggone delicious. Paired next to a cup of coffee, and I can set the world on fire.
