Mom & Me.

She's my best friend. My closest ally and my wisest advisor. She shops like me, drinks coffee like me, enjoys fine dining and happily ever after movies like me.

No, it's not my cat.

It's my mom.

After three months of busyness with school and work, I've been awarded a break from it all. And what better way to spend it than with Mom? So she flew down, where we reunited in the airport with the longest of hugs.

I always stress the importance of having alone time, time to discover yourself and what you like, but that means absolutely nothing if you don't balance it out with company. The company you keep says a lot about who you are, and it also influences you in ways you don't even know about.

That being said, the company I will be keeping in these next days will be the best: with Mom, whom I love so much.

We began the day with brunch at my old haunt- Absinthe, located in Hayes Valley. There's just something about starting the meal off with a bowlful of latte that really gets me going..

In disclosed honesty, I believe that this was some of the finest French toast I had ever had the pleasure of having. It was ricotta stuffed, with rum-caramel bananas, pecans, orange mascarpone and maple syrup.

Mom and I then had the surprise of the century. So my brother was flying from New York to Mammoth for a week with my dad, and coincidentally, he had quite the layover in SF. He took a taxi over and my mom and I got to enjoy a meal with him. It was simply splendid.

To treat, we ended the meal with a most divine warm spiced pear cake with pepitas and brown butter ice cream. Anton unfortunately had the bulk of that dessert...

What an unexpected and delightful surprise!

Just around the corner, Mom and I attended the San Francisco Ballet's Dances at a Gathering Swimmer. I won these two tickets at a FIDM fundraiser (well, I was the highest bidder), and because I used Mom's money, I thought it only best that she and I both attended together..

The first half was your traditional ballet. Duets and soloists in pastel colors dancing classical ballet, reminding me of my days as a dancer.. At the intermission, Mom and I sprung for a glass of the bubbly because... well, how could you not?

The second half of the performance? Amazing! 1960's modern, with techy touches and neat effects, not to mention about twenty incredibly muscular male dancers...

After the performance, Mom and I shopped downtown, hitting up Ted Baker and Off Neiman's, scoring in both stores. Before we knew it, the hour had come for dinner, so we ducked into our homey John's Grill for a bite to eat, starting with the French Gimlet cocktail. A stiff drink, I later learned..

Mom and I started with Jack Lalanne's favorite salad: seasonal greens, crab, shrimp, avocado, mushrooms, and tomato tossed in their famous creamy bleu cheese vinaigrette dressing.

But who is Jack Lalanne? A fitness guru in the 1960's, someone my mom actually met at a grocery show..

And for the main dish: Prawns Provencale with garlic roma tomatoes, lemon butter, and herbs.

You would think that we would be done there, but we went ahead and sprung for the dessert because life is too short not too. So we settled for a mousse and cappuccinos.

Cheers to you Mom!

Be a Fruit Loop in a World Full of Cheerios.

As the clouds have finally parted to reveal some of that glorious (and much desired) sunshine, I chose to don some of my finest colors, celebrating life and most recently- standing out.

I've always had a tendency to question the standards. I've never been one to fit into the status quo and as my time at school is nearing its end, I'm really beginning to hark back on those rebellious attitudes.

You see, I've always stood out. In every project, in every situation, in every decision I make when deciding what to wear, I ask myself: how can I be different? I am not a follower. Never have been, never will be. All my life, I've looked at things from a different perspective. I've never wanted to just blindly follow the rules. I'm six feet two inches, for goodness sake, so I preach the importance of standing out and celebrating what makes you different!

Life is too short to follow the crowd and blindly get by. Try new things, step outside of the box, and make the most of this short time you're given. Being different is a blessing. Embrace it!

Like I always said: Be a Fruit Loop in a world full of Cheerios... Today, I was definitely the
Fruit Loop.

Pocket Full of Posey.

In lieu of International Women's Day (which is appointed to be tomorrow), I thought I would talk straight with you- girl to girl.

The other night, I watched the fight between McGregor and Diaz. Well, leading up to that, there were multiple other fights lined up, including a big one between two female fighters- Holly Holms and Miesha Tate. They were talking on air about what each of the fighters were earning that night and the difference between the men and women was astonishing.

$500,000 for the female fighters.

$1,000,000 for the male fighters.

Granted, McGregor and Diaz were the highlight of the evening, but after doing some research (plus using my common sense), it appears as though female fighters still get paid way less than male fighters. Can someone explain this to me please?

I shouldn't be surprised, and yet I am. It astounds me. It shocks me that we still have this issue here in the states. There's still this problem where men are treated far more superior than women, and as a result, get paid more.

I'm no man hater. As a feminist, I don't like to think of this as some way to go all female foo fighter on the guys. I like them, of course. I just think that there needs to be equality between both men and women and that this nonsense where females get paid less needs to stop. Feminism isn't man hating: it's the belief that men and women should have equal rights. We've been talking about it since the beginning of time, yet how are we still having issues?

As I grow older, I'm becoming more and more passionate about these things as they directly pertain to me. As I start going into the workplace, as I delve into the adult world, I'm becoming more educated and inspired to stand up for my rights and defend the beliefs that women should get paid the same as men.

Anyhow, today was all about Ted with me. OutfitTED and wearing Ted to Toe. It was especially nice because the day was moody and gray and it was fun to bring in pops of color. I always ask Ted: Are you a camera? Because every time I look at you, I smile...

What I wore: silk ethereal poesy Ted Baker scarf/cape (I love my job!), rhinestone Lia Sophia necklace, purple Ted Baker crop top (I love my job!), mint tulle skirt, ethereal poesy Ted Baker bag (I love my job!), and plum and silver Long Tall Sally pumps.

Cold Shoulder.

And just as quickly as that, the sun disappears and out comes the rain.

It's just as well. Gotta have a balance of both, I suppose!

Anyhow, I watched my first fight yesterday, this UFC nonsense. McGregor vs. Diaz and while fighting is definitely not my preferred choice to watch for sports, it was nonetheless... entertaining. When you've got people so into it, you can't help but get drawn into the action.

When it comes to anger, to being mad or upset, I handle things with silence and with the intention of resolving said issue without fists or angry words. I believe in thinking before saying, and I truly believe that issues can be solved without war.

Call me old-fashioned (or a girl), but that's what I believe in. Doesn't mean I don't enjoy watching a proper fighting scene in a movie, however!

So when I say I give people the "cold shoulder", I literally mean that I'm showing them my cold shoulder. Today, I had two cold shoulders..

What I wore: gold and rhinestone vintage necklace (Mom's), gray Gucci scarf (consignment), white off-shoulder Honey Punch crop top (consignment), vintage orange silk maxi skirt (consignment), and light brown Mia gladiator sandals (Nordstrom Rack).
