A Song For Sunday- Do I Wanna Know?

Arctic Monkeys.. they are my all time new favorite artist right now.

Yes, part of the reason is the release of their new album AM, but man do they have some sound.

My music selection has slowly been getting a bit more rockish, mostly due to the fact that sometimes, I just need music that isn't painfully slow and depressing. Not to say that that slow music is rubbish, I just want more variety in my tunes, ya follah?

Anyhow, I started listening to them way back in October and have been slowly growing to like them even more. I purchased this new album along with a couple of others (XX and ALT J) and feel like a total.. bad-ass when I sit down with my cans and let the sounds take over. It's not necessarily anger music, but it does have this rough around the edges/chill aspect to it that I really do enjoy.

This particular song, the first one listed on their album, has always kind of been my favorite. Being one of the more popular ones, I'm not just following society's opinion on the song, for I also enjoy R U Mine, Arabella, I Wanna Be Yours, and Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High? Basically the whole album there. Yeah, I just think the whole album is mint.

I like the way the song starts, with the solid "bum bum" and then that eerie guitar, bringing this old rock vibe to it. Plus, the chorus is kind of parallel to some personal feelings I'm going through as well, and so the song really fits.

"Do I wanna know
if this feeling flows both ways?
Sad to see you go
Was sort of hoping that you'd stay
Baby we both know
That the nights were mainly
made for saying things
that you can't say tomorrow day

Crawlin' back to you
Ever thought of calling
when you've had a few
'Cause I always do
Maybe I'm too busy being yours
to fall for somebody new
Now I've thought it through
Crawlin' back you you.."

Who's That Girl? It's Jess.

I didn't think it was possible to get hooked on yet another tv show, and yet, the odds have been beat.

Bates Motel, American Horror Story, Vikings, Glee, Downton Abbey.. the common tv shows currently on my viewing list. My friend Caroline introduced me to this "new" one (for me) called NEW GIRL. Yes, it may have come out like three years ago, but my excuse is that I live in an isolated igloo in the frozen wintry mountains of the intimidating state of Alaska, so there.

Anyhow, let's talk NEW GIRL. Besides completely seeing myself in the awkward shoes of Jessica Day, the show is truly a bundle of joy to watch. There are some truly priceless lines in there, especially from Schmidt. In fact, today's outfit inspiration came from the very smooth Schmidt! It had to do with his obsession with cardigans. Hehe. Plus, I feel that Schmidt's character was written to be gay, and he ought to be gay, but throwing the whole "straight" loophole in there makes the show that much funnier.

I love it, I really do, and it proved the myth that YES, it is possible to watch an entire season of a tv show in one sitting.

SUCH a good show.

What I wore: white COACH sunnies (gift), navy blue FOREVER 21 men's cardigan (used), men's RALPH LAUREN plaid top (used), LTS high waisted boyfriend jeans (sale), and vintage men's bowling shoes (used).

Moves@The Movies.

At last, my sister's dance show has arrived. It feels like yesterday that we were dancing in company together, complaining backstage about the hassle of nudies and leotards, and flutters of nervousness in the sides of the wings; and yet, it's two years past.

Dance has always been a part of me, and will continue to be so. Although I was most nervous for taking place as an audience member, and not backstage joining in the festivities of rushed changes and chugged water, I was here for my sister today.

She did wonderfully, let me tell you that. I may have even cried during the first performance because, hey, I'm proud of her. It's such a blessing to see her dancing up there and getting to go that's my sister, ladies and gents because she is so talented and so beautiful. I felt her pain when up on pointe she went and laughed at her expressive faces. I was so so proud.

So yes, I may be a bit disheartened that I am no longer a company member, but to watch my sister dance onstage is worth it.

What I wore: NORDSTROM RACK gold spiky earrings (quite literally spiky), baby blue CHLOE coat, floral ZAC POSEN dress (used), vintage Paris clutch (used), and plum LTS pumps.

So proud to call her my sister!

Red&Black

So I was enjoying "Les Miserables"during my weekly movie night in my humble abode (or as my dad likes to say my "hovel"), and between wiping off my face at the many misty moments (those including I Dreamed a Dream, On my Own, the death of Gavroche, Little Fall of Rain, Javert's suicide, just to name a few), I was trying to figure out what to wear tomorrow because as you know, it can be a thoughtful process for me.

It was during the inspiring scene in the cafe where the lads are planning rebellion that the song Red&Black got my mind to thinking. And guess what my outfit colors were? Red. And black!

I've got to say, those colors sure are powerful- in the rebellious sense, and of representation of many hidden meanings.

"Red
The blood of angry men
Black
The dark of ages past
Red
A World About to dawn
Black
The night that ends at last..

"Red
I feel my soul on fire
Black
My world if she's not there
Red
The color of desire
Black
The color of despair...

Or my own version that my dysfunctional duo partner came up with..

Red
The color of my nails
Black
The color of my shirt..

Is there any non-awkward way to take a photo of your nails without that intense claw pose?
Anyhow, thank you to Les Miserables for sparking that thought in me!

All the Little Lights.

Enjoy the little things in life, for someday you will look back and realize they were the big things.

I couldn't agree with that saying more.

Yesterday evening, my good friend Caroline invited my sister and I for a little bite to eat in Homer. Yes, we were just here last week, but that tells you something about Homer and its food, yes? Our original plan was to discuss London because, HELLO, it's coming up, but with my sister in the car, we ended up gabbing over other stuff- mainly boys. What can I say? Girls will be girls.

Anyhow, the drive was class: the views were pristine, the sun was shining, and we were cracking ourselves up over every little thing that set us aflame. Laughter is fine medicine alongside sun, let me tell you!

I just want to share with you how little things like good company and tasty food can really make in impact on my day. I had a blast! And to tie that in with Passenger's album All the Little Lights, we were coming home and the sunset was peculiarly similar to that of the album cover. It was a sign...

We're born with millions
Of little lights shining in the dark
And they show us the way
One lights up, every time you feel love in your heart
One dies when it moves away.

Homer, Alaska.

Quaint Two Sisters Bakery.

What a laugh! We all got the mac 'n cheese, for it is no ordinary meal. Made with both gouda and cheddar cheese with pulled pork.. oh my.

See? What did I tell you..

Rise Above the Storm&You Will Find the Sunshine.

What a stunner today. I thought that with the temperatures in the under ten range this morning, that it would be another chilly one here in Alaska, but I was more than giddy when the sun came out and heated things up a bit.

That funk that I was in has slowly been ebbing away, and I give cred to the sunshine. It truly does have power over how I feel and this week has been quite easily a fantastic one thus far. Sunshine is fantastic medicine for those in the dumps, such as myself.

I thought that I would celebrate in this glourious weather with donning my favorite color- mint! It also appears to be a trending color for this spring and I am most excited. Paired with this light khaki- bam, it's magic waiting to happen.

What i wore: John Lennon inspired mint NORDSTROM sunnies, striped REHAB mint and khaki chunky sweater (used), pointy dagger necklace (sale), high waisted LTS boyfriend jeans (sale), khaki WET SEAL ankle booties, and cross body D&B handbag (used).

I don't know about you, but one of my favorite things to do is going into those humongous hardware stores and take paint samples. I was there anyway for a project I'm working on and so I thought I'd snatch a few and just show you what color palette I'm in love with currently.
