The Things She Loves.

There are some things in life that money can't buy.

Laughter. Friends. Playfulness. Curiosity. Joy.

And it's those little things in life, as well as those purchased (mainly coffee at this point), that make life truly spectacular and perfect.

Today's inspiration was drawn from Kate Spade, which, as you know, is always an ever present influence in my style. But it's not just my style that she influences, it's my character. The whole Kate Spade persona is something that I deeply feel is what my life is about.

Now today was also the day of our Kate Spade presentation project part 1- target customer of Kate Spade. Who is she? What makes her tick? So the power group (Whitney, Jordan, and myself) made a cute power point, complete with the twenty little things that inspire Kate Spade ( found in The Things We Love Kate Spade book), as well as an ending video that we filmed over the weekend. Check it out here, we are most proud: The Things She Loves.

And of course, we had to dress the part! Today's look was inspired by a certain page in the Style Kate Spade book (an absolute bible).

#19 on Kate Spade's Things We Love: Bold blooms. Whitney's sporting them right, as per usual!

Jordan in white: White is the color of purity, truce, virginity, and heaven. There are winter whites (snowflakes and eggnog), and whites of spring and summer (Easter lilies and white sand). Women in white- brides, debutantes, and nurses- connote innocence and virtue, but none so coyly as Marilyn Monroe.

Yellow: As the color of confidence, yellow symbolizes energy, wisdom, and joy. From its good visibility- think taxicabs- to its overpowering optimism, yellow is an attention-getter. Try this color combination- yellow, black, and white.

What I wore: pearl studs, black HELEN SMITH 1960's beaded floral top (used), yellow CAbi pencil skirt (used), and white FRYE ankle booties (used).

When my roommate Jo and I get together for pictures, they always end up getting weird..

Ok, can we just focus on the fact that I have these massive witch-like claws as hands?

I used to sit like this in school because my legs stretch on fer days.. I figured I could get Jordan to try it as well!

Dat's right. Success.

What's Been Up.

Long time, no see! Either that means I'm exceedingly lazy (I can attest to that), or I've been fairly busy (I can attest to that as well), but nonetheless, it's no excuse to forget to catch up!

It's been a whirlwind these past couple of weeks. And I know this is only normal for a girl who's finishing up her first year away at college (!!!) who's also cramming her plate with every snack food available.

That being said, here are some things I've been up to these past couple of weeks. First off, my dearest friend Kate came over from sunny Scottsdale to spend the weekend with me, and let's just say that we had a ball. We always do. She always manages to make me step out of my comfort zone, and I just love catching up with her. And of course all of those doughnut runs..

I've also been quite busy with school. Finals and projects are all starting to come together and so there have been lots of get togethers as well as naps ( SO MANY NAPS). Here's a look into one particular project we have coming up on Kate Spade that involved a little jaunt around town and being filmed... gotta love that!

And I'll close with the most important bit of how I've been surviving these past few weeks: coffee.

But are you really surprised?

Anyhow, thanks for bearing with me during these busy times! I'll try and keep ya updated as much as I can, yes?

A Song for Sunday- River of No Return.

I have been on a Marilyn Monroe kick recently. Maybe it's due to the fact that I've been watching lots of her films by candlelight in my pink Marilyn Monroe robe, yearning for a love to call my own...

Getting a little sappy on ya here, but that's what I've been feeling lately. I can't help it, I'm only human! And her films just make me insanely happy on the inside, forever strengthening that romantic aura in me.

Anyhow, this song in particular is one that I love to listen to in the shower (again, by candlelight). I like to sit down in the tub with the water softly shooting down and listen to this song.

It's sappy, it's sensual, but it's so beautiful and I love listening to it when I'm feeling slightly blue, or when I've yet again been hurt by a guy. Someday, someday..

"..I can hear my lover call come to me, no return, no return
I lost my love on the river and for ever my heart will yearn.."

P.S. It's also from a film that I am dying to see!

Happy Memorial Day.

We had a pretty epic day at school, in honor of Memorial Day. All of last week, new artwork was being put up as well American flags in every nook and cranny. And at lunch today, we were given quite a presentation that sent goosebumps rippling down my body and tears pop out of my eyes.

It made me incredibly proud to be an American.

Basically, there's a veteran who's also a past FIDM student who now does involvement with this organization called Freedom's On Me. We had multiple speakers, including a woman who lost her son, and it was just all very touching and inspiring. The fact that we're able to attend a fashion school that's still so heavily involved in things other than strictly fashion is just awesome, especially a subject that deals so much with American patriotism.

God bless America, and thank you to those who have fought to keep this country safe, and to those who are currently doing so.

Celebration at school included a full on barbecue, complete with supermodels' favourite food- burgers!

I seriously felt so much like nurse Evelyn Johnson from Pearl Harbor..

What I wore: navy and white PINUP COUTURE 1940's dress (used), and vintage red SALVATORE FERRAGAMO shoes (used).
