Dinner and Big Buoys.

With finals week coming up (and graduation), time is becoming rare for the family to do anything together. And this is especially so with my sister and her crazy busy life. So, with a free night on the horizon, we thought, why not treat ourselves to Homer? Because seriously, that's the nearest place if you're looking for fine food. So away we went!

It turned out to be a really splendid evening. We dressed up, had delicious food (of which I didn't take any photos of because I was too hungry to stop and snap), saw a record number of moose (I think we were up near the thirty count), and found this fabulous buoy sculpture down by the water that we simply had to stop at.

I managed a coffee photo though!

I can not help but sing I like big buoys and I cannot lie..

A Song for Sunday- I'd Rather Go Blind.

Oh we're taking it back old school to the time of blues and soul- late 1960's.

I always thought that I should have been born in a different time period based on my interests and likes in fashion, interaction, people, and most importantly, music. There is just something so incredibly true and real about music from the olden days. Currently, there's so much crabola piled into current songs with auto tuning and a team full of songwriters that I can't tell what's real and what's not. It's incredibly sad. We need to appreciate the vocals of performers, not just the image. So today, we're traveling back.

This song was performed by the incredible Miss Etta James, but the version I want to share with you today is sung by Beyonce in Cadillac Records ( I love her old school singing). I first heard it on my Amy Winehouse Pandora station and was struck by the pure truth and tragedy. The song is your typical bluesy one, but it's the meaning of the song that caught my eye.

It's basically about a woman who would rather go blind than to see her man leave her. It just hits home. Look here:

Whoo, I would rather, I would rather go blind, boy
Than to see you walk away from me, child, no

Whoo, so you see, I love you so much
That I don't wanna watch you leave me, baby
Most of all, I just don't, I just don't wanna be free, no..

And Beyonce's performance in the film is absolute perfection. She pulls of that incredible sing/cry that I like to imitate in my room sometimes. It is definitely one of my jams. It's just tragic, but that's love sometimes.

Those Sunshiney Days.

I just can't stop praising this weather.

I always thought that weather as a topic was a bit.. expected when making small talk, but I really do find pleasure in talking 'bout the weather. Especially this year! Whilst the rest of the United States struggles with awkward cold spells, us Alaskans don't know what to do with ourselves when we saw those temperature gauges go past sixty-five degrees. That's unknown and dusty territory and yet here we are, on a continued warm streak.

Of course there's still the challenge of temperature changes from morning to afternoon. Like today, for instance. Woke up to thirty degrees and it's now seventy. Come on Alaska, make up yo mind here!

The sun has made a huge impact in my mood and I feel unadulterated happiness coursing through my veins every time I wake to clear skies. It's a good time to be in Alaska.

What I wore: LIA SOPHIA pearl earrings, vintage blue crop top with beaded flowers (used), blue HALOGEN curve hugging skirt (used), and blue DOLCE VITA flats (sale).

Happy Mothers Day.

It's Mothers Day and all I can say is this:

Mom, you are the finest, loveliest, tenderest, and most beautiful mom that I have ever had the pleasure of knowing, and even that is an understatement.

Our cat, Fudge, always here to interrupt..

A Song for Sunday- Java Jive.

The story of my life.

If it's not cats, it's coffee.

Being Mothers Day and all, I decided to share a song that both my mother and myself enjoy thoroughly, one that speaks to both of us.

My voice teacher first introduced me to this song a couple of years ago because she thought it was fitting to me and my affection towards all things coffee. Boy did she have that down to a tea! (pun intended)

The song of choice is sung by none other than the harmonious Puppini Sisters and has such a 40's vibe to it- very sensual and mysterious. Think dark lit coffee shop, after hours nighttime singing with you, the microphone, a single spotlight, and the heavy smell of espresso in the air..

I like it a latte. When I have no coffee, I feel depresso. It makes me espresso myself. I'm having deja brew here..

"I love coffee, I love tea
I love the java give and it loves me.
Coffee and tea and the java and me
A cup, a cup, a cup, a cup, a cup (jack!).."

So I also made this for my mum- a collection of coffee photos that I have either made or have had the pleasure of drinking.

Ahoy Sailor!

Hey you! Yeah, I'm talking to you.

Guess what? Wanna know something special?

It's spring!

Ah I just cannot believe how stunning it is here in Alaska this springtime. Usually our springtime is dubbed "breakup" season, meaning that all the snow melts and things get real messy, real fast. This spring, however, has turned to be quite fantastic indeed. Endless days of sunshine and happy smiles coming from this girl right here!

Even my cat cannot stop whining from lack of playtime outside. Oh cat. We share the same desires.

Just thought I'd share my happiness with you on this fine springy day!
