A Song for Sunday- Scare Away the Dark.

It's out! It's out. Passenger's incredible new album Whispers is finally out and ready to listen to.

Wow. What a powerful album. Let me rephrase: a  powerful fifth studio album.

Passenger is just so talented. There's something true and heartfelt about his songwriting. Honest to goodness, his music gives me goosebumps. Of course there's some somber stuff, but it all has meaning. It has depth, it means something.

Man, and to chose just one song on this album? Exceedingly difficult to chose just one when they all tear at my heartstrings; however, today's choice, being the most popular, is also the most meaningful to me.

It was in South Dakota that I actually really listened to this song. It's as bright as day what the message is. I just want to share it with everyone, make them see!

Basically, the song is about stepping away from the devices, from the screens and the expected ways of carrying out one's life, and to enjoy it.

"We wish our weekdays away
Spend our weekends in bed
Drink ourselves stupid
And work ourselves dead
And all just because that's what mom and dad said we should do

We should run through the forest
We should swim in the streams
We should laugh, we should cry,
We should love, we should dream
We should stare at the stares and not just the screens
You should hear what I'm saying and know what it means.."

I do! I understand.

But seriously- I've noticed a lot lately, especially in restaurants and in the coffee shop, that families and couples are sitting there together, across from each other, and every single one of them is on their devices. It simply breaks my heart.

What happened to playing games outside? To wading through the creeks and splashing around? To simply putting down one's phone and talking to the person you've just been stalking on Instagram? Honestly. I don't get it. I love Passenger, and he hits a lot of points in this song. In his true and blunt manner, he talks about less electronics and more playing, appreciating life and not being scared of what's out there, not conforming to the standards of the world or the pressures of being someone else, and seeing the beauty of living life to its fullest, like its meant to be lived, and not through screens.

"Well, we wish we were happier, thinner and fitter,
We wish we weren't losers and liars and quitters
We want something more not just nasty and bitter
We want something real not just hash tags and Twitter

It's the meaning of life and it's streamed live on YouTube
But I bet Gangnam Style will still get more views
We're scared of drowning, of flying and shooters
But we're all slowly dying in front of fucking computers.."

Preach it. Preach it loud and clear because if we all light up, we can scare away the dark.
