This little dose of liquid ecstasy has been the summer's hottest commodity.
It has saved me countless afternoons of staring at the walls and from my eyelids falling shut.
Ladies and gentlemen, introducing... the John Wayne.
Word of mouth got this epic shooter its popularity down here on the Peninsula, and it's no wonder why.
It's perfection. I don't even know where to begin, so I'm just going to share the recipe with you so you can have your own taste of this creme de la creme.
We begin with three simple ingredients:
-fine layer of Natural Vanilla Syrup (enough to cover the bottom of the cup)
-about one inch of half and half
-one shot of espresso
We begin with the vanilla on the bottom..
Next, one must add the half and half. Don't stir.
We continue to pour one single shot of espresso.
The next step involves "surfing" the espresso on top. Now because I was making the drink and also being the photographer, I couldn't get a photo, but basically, what one must do is carefully pour the shot on top of the spatula angled against the side of the cup to get the espresso layered on top.
Now one does not want to mix these fine ingredients together because the special quality about a John Wayne is that one must take it as a shot. Think of the West, of old saloons and a cowboy John Wayne taking his whiskey. Now apply it here. Do not sip. Do not mix. Take that baby in one (or two) gulps. That way, one gets the bitter espresso taste, followed by the smooth cream, and finishing with a sweet vanilla.
Once taken, you will feel re-energized, rejuvenated, and ready to conquer Everest. I advise against the latter, however.
But truly, these simple shooters are delicious. They always make me a very happy girl.
